Is your computer running slow ? Windows 7 is a very good operation system , but as you probably already noticed , it takes a big bite of your computers resources. In the following article i`ll show you just how to improve speed and performance of your machine.

1. Performance Options
Windows 7 comes with a new and shinny look, but all those effects have a negative impact on your computer`s performance. Luckily there is a way to disable the various appearance elements and optimize your Windows 7.

1. Click the start menu icon.
2. Write in the search bar  "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows" and press Enter
3. In the new window select the option "Adjust for better performance" and click the button OK

If you want to keep the new look of Windows 7 and still improve performance, then you can experiment with the various options in the "Appearance and performance" window and see what works best for you.

2. Do not let windows automatically index files , 2a. Perform a disk cleanup
Windows automatically index your files so that they`ll pop-up in your search results faster, but this can cause performance issues as well. So, if you are not using the Search option of Windows that often, then it is a good idea to disable automatic file index. I`ll also show you how to clean up your disc of unneeded files.

Instructions: 2:
1. Click the start menu icon.
2. Click "Computer"
3. Right click on "C" and click Properties

4. Disable this option "Allow files on this drive to have content indexed in addition to file properties"
5. Click the OK Button
6. Do the same for all other hard-disks you might have.

Instructions 2a:
1. Follow steps 1 through 3 from Instructions 2.
2. Click on the "Disk Cleanup" button and follow on-screen instruction till finished.
3. Defragment your hard-disk and check it for errors.
After using your computer for a couple years it might not be working as smoothly as when you first bought it. All that writing, reading and deleting files from your hard-disk will influence your hard-disk performance. It`s recommended by IT specialist that you check your hard-disk for errors and defragment it once every 6 months.
Defragmenting your hard-disk means that windows will put all files in the correct order so that your HDD will access them without delay.

1. Click the start menu.
2. Click on "Computer"
3. Right click on "C"
4. From the menu click properties
5. On the new window click the "Tools" tab.
6. Click under Error Checking the "Check Now" button
7. Follow instructions and wait till finished.
8. Click "Defragment Now" , follow on-screen instructions and wait till finished.

Defragmenting your hard-disk might take several hours to complete. I would suggest leaving your computer to Defragment during the night.
